June Update - June 7, 2008

I know I have been neglecting my website, and I will get back to it this month. I spent much of May either hospitalized or at home (alternating) with IV medications. It was a rough month, and I am slowly recovering. The wonderful wife Betty also did two stints in the hospital (nice month for us), but she is doing great now. I still have not played at all, though I hope to get back to the tables this month.

I did two of the radio shows from my hospital bed. All three shows I did were for They were fun, and I was bored anyway. But I am now home and getting out more. With the WSOP and multiple other tournaments in town, the cash games should be hopping, and I should be back to them in a week or so.

I have also neglected my forum. I am sorry for that. I had agreed to be a guest “expert” for Mathew Hilger’s Internet Texas Hold’em forum, and May was my month. Whenever I could get to the Internet, I tried to keep up my commitment to Matt. That’s over now, and I will be getting back to my forum. it could use some members, by the way. We have some lively discussions. I know there are a million forums around, but mine is pretty small, always respectful. and generally informative.

Martin Harris wrote a very nice review of my book for Poker News. You can find it here.

This is not fully confirmed, but I think I will be doing the analysis for the WSOP webcast of the $10,000 World Championship of Limit Hold’em, with the final table on June 17. As soon as I am certain, I will post it. You can watch it almost live on WSOP.com, or later on ESPN360.com.

I will also be getting back to some Thoughts of the Week.

Betty and I have each had some tough health problems this month. As a result, I have had to cancel my Nashville seminar appearance on May 23. The event will still be held, my good friend Terricita Evanowski (an amazing high stakes player) will still be there to talk (perhaps with another speaker as well) and the event will still be very worthwhile. The price has been reduced to $150 per person, and ticket sales are going well. It is a great charity, and there is still an opportunity for a terrific prize.

I am still doing a bit of stuff on radio. The two shows mentioned before with Al Spath and David Apostolico are available here.
Also on roundersradio.com, I will be part of a panel with Roy Cooke, Mark Gregorich, and Don Olney hosted by Dr. Alan Schoonmaker on the topic of Playing Professionally. The show will air live May 29 at 3:00 PM eastern. Also onthe show will be an attorney/ financial planner to discuss some of the nitty gritty financial aspects of professional poker, such as credit, mortgages, and health care.

Holdemradio.com is, at least temporarily, out of business. The owner has run out of money, and the site is closed. Thus, all of the podcasts and other previous broadcasts are no longer available. This is really a bad beat, as I listened to some, but never downloaded any (I still live in the dark ages of the internet). If anyone has any of these recorded (like the ones I did, or co-hosted with Dr. Al), please let me know. I would like to have them.

On a somewhat more positive note, Dr. Schoonmaker, whose show I have been co-hosting, has agreed to move his show to roundersradio.com. This outfit has more listeners, and should be able to offer a better product. As Dr. Al is writing yet ANOTHER book (the man is a machine), we probably will not be doing the show on a regular basis until after May 1. We may tape a few sporadically between now and then, and these will be announced, here as are all of our shows, on my forum.

Thank you to those who listened to us, and I hope you enjoy the product in the new venue.
